The seven-story pediatric expansion is taking shape, each day looking more like the state-of-the-art children’s hospital tower it will become when it opens in fall 2020.

Following the project’s topping out ceremony June 27, a celebration of the building reaching its full height, construction moved inside.

By September, work had begun on mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, the inner workings of this future place of healing, started. Wall framing, drywall hanging and painting is now underway, and windows are going into place.

Work on the children’s hospital expansion progresses inside and out.

Nearby, the 517-space parking garage, with its foundation now complete, is growing taller, as elevated slabs are being poured this fall.

“Each day, thanks to the efforts of the hundreds of construction workers on the job, we are moving closer to the completion of our tower,” said Brian Reddoch, project manager with UMMC’s Office of Planning, Design and Construction.

Meanwhile, planning continues within Children’s of Mississippi, so that, when moving day comes, its departments and clinics will be ready.
